   GeoPrior uses both depth-like and head-like quantities.
   Be careful with direction conventions when reading formulas,
   examples, and exported tensors.

   - groundwater depth: positive downward
   - hydraulic head: positive upward
   - cumulative subsidence: vertical settlement quantity used
     throughout the forecasting workflow
